Pidwise: How ready your catalogue is, and what fails most

What it does

From 1 November 2026, every item you ship to EU customers needs three product identifiers.

Your SKU, your supplier's reference, and a GTIN or Y081 when none exists. Shopify has no field for the supplier reference. Pidwise adds one, checks every variant against each identifier plus HS code and country of origin, and ranks what to fix by EU sales.

Questions

The ones merchants ask before installing Pidwise.

Ask something else

What exactly changes on 1 November 2026?

Every item on an EU import declaration for a parcel sent to a consumer must carry three product identifiers: the seller's product code (M-PID, your SKU), the manufacturer's or supplier's reference (NS-PID), and a standard identifier such as a GTIN (S-PID), or the code Y081 when none exists. Your carrier or broker files the declaration from your product and order data.

Does the app file my customs declarations?

No. Your carrier or broker does that. The app makes sure the data they read from your store is complete, and gives you a file to hand them.

Where does the supplier reference live?

On each variant, in a field the app adds to your products (a metafield). You can see and edit it on the product page in Shopify, it appears in Shopify's own product export, and it stays in your store if you uninstall.

My products have no barcode. Is that a problem?

Not if they genuinely have none. Tick "No GTIN (Y081)" and the export declares Y081 for them. The app does flag barcodes that look made up: a wrong check digit, repeated digits, or an in-store number.

Will it change anything in my store without asking?

At install it adds its fields to your products and starts a scan; that is all. After that it writes only what you save, import or approve, plus one tag on each EU order once you subscribe to Monitor.

What does it read from my orders?

For orders shipping to the EU: the order number, the destination country and the line items. It never stores customer names, emails, phone numbers or addresses.

What happens when I uninstall?

Billing stops, and everything the app holds about your store is deleted 48 hours later. The supplier references and no-GTIN flags are your data and stay on your products.
